Rebecca’s Message to Her Peers

Think about this: we take going to school for granted.  We complain that we have to go to school and get up early or whatever. But has this ever crossed you mind?…

1 in every 5 people can’t read or write. There are 75 million children who don’t have access to an education. Education is important.  The more education a child has, the more income he/she will have in the future, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.

Did you know that a child is more likely to live beyond the age of 5 if his/her mother has had a basic education?

We all hate school and wish we didn’t have to go, but there are kids that are 15 years old and cannot read or write. They have no place like school or anyone who can teach them.

I love learning new things and can’t imagine the lifestyles of children in other countries that don’t have the opportunity to learn.

They deserve an education, too.

They deserve to be able to live their dreams no matter how big or small.

They deserve to have a chance, to show this world what they are made of, to be anything they want to be – a doctor, a lawyer, or a teacher.

I’m teaming up with Pencils of Promise to raise money to build schools in third world countries. Pencils of Promise is a nonprofit organization. It was started less then two years ago to build schools and increase educational opportunities in less fortunate communities around the world.

There are millions of children in poor countries who don’t get the chance to receive an education. Pencils of Promise wants to help fix this problem and so do I.

I’m 16, and ever since I was just a little girl I’ve wanted to change the world and I plan on doing so. I’m starting this journey by raising $25,000 for Pencils of Promise Schools 4 All Fundraising Contest.

This is only the beginning of this journey and I look forward to having you join me.

Together we can change the world one cause at a time!
